Candy Spelling's $47 Million Move

All of Los Angeles is buzzing over the news of Candy Spelling's big real estate move. The 62-year-old wife of the late Aaron Spelling is planning to move out of her mansion, a 123-room, 56,500-square-foot mansion on six acres in the Holmby Hills area, and into a condo. But don't feel too sorry for Candy, while her new home will be less than a third the size of the old one, it is still a whopping 16,500 square feet and sits atop The Century building which is being built next door to the Century Plaza Hotel on Avenue of the Stars. The condo will have 360-degree views of the city all the way to the ocean.

Spellings new condo went for $2,848 per square foot which works out to an astounding $47 million, a record for a Los Angeles condo. The LA Times has a few details of Candy's new two-story pad. The lower floor will include a living room with two working fireplaces, a dining room for 25 guests, and staff quarters while the top floor will be home to the bedrooms, a massage room, exercise room, conservatory with rose garden, swimming pool and a deck. The master suite alone is 4,000 square feet. She will move in next year which means that the Spelling mansion may soon be on the market. Rumors of offers have been swirling for a while but we could even see a listing now unless it sells quickly and privately to someone willing to spend around $150 million for a home with a bowling alley and a gift wrapping room among its many luxuries.

Shirley MacLaine Jewelry

Legendary actress Shirley MacLaine now has her own line of jewelry. MacLaine says that playing fashion designer Coco Chanel in a TV movie inspired her line of jewelry. The Chakra Sky Jewelry marries her interest in gemstones with her love of the metaphysical. The rings, pendants and earrings have names like Spirit Steering and Safe Landing and are made of eco-friendly sterling silver and gemstones such as amethyst, fire opal and lapis. The pieces are priced a bit higher than similar pieces I have seen but the actress's name may contribute to the pricing. The Chakra Sky rings shown above are worn at the top of the finger rather than at the base and sell for $328.

Kelsey Grammer's Fantastic Flip, Estate of the Day

We've written about Kelsey Grammer's real estate doings before (he's nearly as ambitious a real estate tycoon as Ellen DeGeneres and now the Real Estalker reveals the latest listing from Kelsey and Camille Grammer. This home in the prestigious Holmby Hills are of Los Angeles is one of his best yet. The seven-bedroom home is over 10,000 square feet is on almost an acre of desirable land. The Grammers bought the home less than a year ago for $13.7 million. They have done up the home in their mix of beige and whimsy, sticking to relatively neutral tones throughout the house but making some vibrantly colorful choices in bathroom tiles. The grounds include an expansive pool area and a large lawn.

The home's other features include a gym (with a fireplace), large bathrooms, a media room with a built-in bar and a cozy but luxe style that gets much of its charm from the heavy dark beams and plethora of French doors. I'm not much of a fan of the "English Country" style but as wacky as they are, I'm loving the bathroom remodels (although I never understand the wisdom of having anything upholstered next to the tub. The Grammers have listed this home for $19.9 million.

Akris Outfits High-Powered Women At High Prices

Swiss designer Albert "I cannot work with cheap fabric" Kriemler has gradually built his family-owned brand, Akris, into a luxury power seller. Now serious competition for longstanding luxury brands Armani and Chanel, Akris often outsells both in that elusive upper echelon of fashion. But you won't see the brand on many a young starlet. Akris is not for the trendy, despite a criticized attempt to change things up for the Spring 08 collection. Favored by women looking to be taken seriously -- Condoleeza Rice is a fan, as is Diane Sawyer -- Akris focuses on quality and timelessness, with the seasonless, highly packable fabric to prove it. Yet highly packable translates to highly priced: a cashmere/silk jersey dress is in the $3-4000 range. Check out selections from Fall at Bergdorf's and also at Neiman's. Then browse the gallery to see some evening pieces, and all those gorgeously cut pants. To see some new shapes and a few perfectly draped dresses, check out the Akris resort collection on Style.com, which isn't out quite yet.

Shepard Fairey Barack Obama Painting Auctioned For Charity

When contemporary art cult fave Shepard Fairey started "campaigning" for Barack Obama, he created original collages assembling inspiring portraits of Obama above titles like HOPE, PROGRESS and CHANGE. We saw them silkscreened on tee shirts worn by the likes of Ryan Phillippe that soon became impossible to get, selling for thousands on eBay. Now for the true connoisseur -- of politics and art -- the rare opportunity exists to bid on one of the original three pieces, OBAMA HOPE. Currently at $60,000, the piece is being auctioned by Westport, CT-based CharityBuzz, which will donate profits to the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, providing access to the arts to disadvantaged urban youth. CharityBuzz will accept bids until July 24, but if you miss this potentially revolutionary piece of art, you can at least order the sticker version online at Sticker Robot. Big spender yours truly just snagged ten of them.

Roman's Latest Real Estate Rumor

The rumors involving Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich come and go so fast, sometimes it's hard to keep up. The big one this week was that Abramovich, one of the world's biggest spenders, had picked up a home in France for $500 million. The home in question La Leopolda, is an elaborate villa on 10 acres located on the French Riviera.

Various sources said that Abramovich and his girlfriend Daria Zhukova had a private viewing of the estate and fell in love with it and decided to buy it, even though he already owns a chateau nearby. The story quickly made the rounds of major websites and newspapers and yesterday and then, just as quickly, disappeared. The Independent reported that Abramovich's spokesperson shot down the claims saying that Abramovich doesn't need another house in France. Still, with Abarmovich, you just never know, he could still be moving in and just be playing a guessing game with the press.

Pharrell Opts For Expensive Tattoo Removal

To Pharrel Williams being a grown man means no longer have fire tattoos on his arms but instead of having a laser treatment to fade or remove the flames the rapper/producer/entrepreneur is looking to have his arms replaced! -- well, at least the skin on his arms. There is a revolutionary new procedure where a lab, using a sample of your skin, can grow more skin to be used as a skin graft over the portion where the tattoos currently reside. They just sew it on and voila! You have a seamless, tattoo-less arm that once healed will be ready for new ink designs. Pharrel doesn't seem to care that it costs upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars for the procedure and it sounds like he anticipates a new ink job when his lab-grown-sewn-on-skin is good and ready.

Sting Criticized For Solo Jet Flight

The celebrities who espouse a green lifestyle often find themselves in trouble when they indulge in some of the privileges of the wealthy. Al Gore has taken the heat for his energy consumption and now Sting is in the spotlight for a private jet splurge. Sting took a solo flight to Germany recently on a Falcon 2000 to meet the rest of the band, The Police for a concert in Leipzig. A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that he was the solo passenger on the plane which can carry 14 passengers. He flew back to England less than 24 hours later via private jet but it's not known if he was alone.

According to the Daily Mail,
the Police was named 'dirtiest band' in January for the scale of their carbon footprint. It's been a tough year for Sting and his eco-actions. He started off the year by renting a private yacht in Australia and as I mentioned back in May, his Rainforest Foundation has come under fire for its record of giving. Sting also starred in an ad-campaign for the notso eco Jaguar cars.

Queen Elizabeth is Plane Shopping

The Sunday Times reports that the Queen of England is in the market for a new plane. No Air-Force-One-sized jet for the Queen though, word from Buckingham Palace is that they are in the market for a small executive plane like a Gulfstream or Learjet. The plane would also be available for use by Gordon Brown and senior ministers.

The plane w ould be paid for by taxpayers and would include the usual private plane bells and whistles such as catering facilities and in-flight entertainment. The Queen had previously been able to use larger planes provided by the RAF. Also in the past, Prince Charles and other royals have chartered planes or flown first class for their royal tours, which they will still have to do for longer trips. The new plane will be best for short jaunts. The prime minister opted against a larger plane for himself and the royals because of the price. A decision on the type of plan and specific purchase details probably won't be available until later this year.

What's particularly interesting about the comments section of the article is that many of those who wrote in believe the Queen (and to some extent Gordon Brown) should have a bigger plane.

Jamie Foxx in Tarzana, Estate of the Day

Actor Jamie Foxx hasn't lived in his Tarzana, California home for a while, moving on to a 40-acre spread in Thousand Oaks. This three-bedroom in Tarzana had been his home since 1997 when he bought the home for $930,000. As the Real Estalker mentions, the home has been the site of some of Foxx's famous wild parties and the police were once called over a nude basketball game being held on the home's half court. The home has been customized by Foxx with details such as aquariums in the living room, a game room in the basement, a media room and a recording studio. The home has since gone through a major renovation which explains the blandness of the current decor.

The backyard includes a large lawn, pool and pool house, sunken spa and that infamous basketball court. This home is listed at $2.23 million.
